• Descripción: Octadec-9-enedioic acid (ODE) is a monomer that is a fatty acid. It can be found in suberin, which is the waxy material that surrounds plant cells. ODE is an activating molecule and can hydrogen bond with other molecules. The ester linkages of ODE are hydrolyzed by esterases, which also catalyze the hydrolysis of its fatty acids. This process yields glycerol and fatty alcohols, such as oleic acid or octadecanol. The selectivity of octadec-9-enedioic acid for cancer cells has been shown to be due to its ability to interact with phosphatidylserine on the surface of cancer cells and induce apoptosis.
