2-Amino-4-phenyl-3-thiophenecarbonitrile is a heterocyclic amine that is used as a precursor for the manufacture of acrylonitrile. It can be produced by the reaction of salicylaldehyde with sodium cyanide in an acidic medium, followed by evaporation of the solvent and crystallization. 2-Amino-4-phenyl-3-thiophenecarbonitrile has shown to be a strong reducing agent when it interacts with copper metal in an alkaline solution. This chemical has been studied using X-ray diffraction techniques, which reveal its molecule structure.
