4-Hydroxypyrimidine-5-carboxamide is a pyridine derivative that is metabolized to a number of different compounds, including hydroxypyrimidine-5-carboxamide. It has been shown to have cardiovascular activity and may be used for the treatment of hypoxia-inducible disorders. 4-Hydroxypyrimidine-5-carboxamide has also been shown to inhibit the production of endogenous catecholamines and norepinephrine by binding to the enzyme hydroxylase. This drug also binds to the protein receptor site, which leads to its stimulatory effects on cardiac cells.
