Descripción:
5-Bromofuran-2-carbonitrile is a benzoxazole which can be used to synthesize furans, imidates, and aldehydes. It can also be used as an oxidant in the synthesis of furyl compounds. 5-Bromofuran-2-carbonitrile has been shown to efficiently catalyze the oxidation of secondary alcohols to ketones. The mechanism of this reaction is unknown but it may involve the formation of an iminium ion intermediate, followed by acid catalysis.
