5-Bromo-4-chloro-3-indoxyl phosphate, dilithium salt hydrate is a fluorescent substrate used in the detection of beta-galactosidase. It is a ligand for the enzyme beta-galactosidase and is used in immunoassays such as ELISA to detect the presence of this enzyme. The ligand has also been used to detect beta-galactosidase activity in microorganisms such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Escherichia coli. 5BICP has been shown to be a high quality fluorogenic substrate that provides bioluminescence which can be detected with a spectrofluorometer or luminometer.
