5-Bromo-4-chloro-1H-indol-3-yl-b-D-cellotetraoside is a fluorescent cell wall substrate that is used for the detection of beta-glucuronidase activity in bacteria and fungi. It reacts with the enzyme beta glucuronidase, which catalyzes the hydrolysis of 1,2 glycosidic linkages in polysaccharides. The reaction results in a fluorescence signal proportional to the amount of beta glucuronidase present in the sample. 5B4C1HITC can be used as a substrate for bioluminescence assays, chromogenic substrates, and staining procedures.
