Descripción:Almitrine dimesilate is a bismesylate that has been approved for the treatment of primary pulmonary hypertension and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. It is also used to treat autoimmune diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, and multiple sclerosis. Almitrine dimesilate binds to the respiratory tract mucous membranes and inhibits the release of histamine or leukotrienes by blocking histamine receptors. This drug also blocks almitrine-sensitive K+ channels in heart muscle cells, which results in decreased heart rate and lower blood pressure. Almitrine dimesilate has been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects and may be useful in treating infections caused by bacteria sensitive to this drug.
