4-Dimethylamino-1-naphthyl isothiocyanate (DMNITC) is a psychoactive drug that was first synthesized in the 1950s. It has been shown to alleviate depressive symptoms in patients with autoimmune diseases, cancer, and HIV infection. DMNITC may act through its effects on the immune system by inhibiting the production of cytokines such as TNF-α and IL-1β. It is also known to inhibit monocyte antigen expression, which may be useful for diagnosis of lymphoproliferative disorders. DMNITC has been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects in vivo, but chronic exposure can lead to ganglionic acidosis.
