2-Amino-3-(3-bromo-4-hydroxyphenyl)propanoic acid (2A3B4HP) is a reactive metabolite of 3,4-dihydroxyphenylalanine (DOPA). 2A3B4HP has been observed in urine samples from patients with Parkinson's disease. The activity index for 2A3B4HP was found to be significantly higher in the proximal tubules of rats treated with DOPA than in untreated rats. This metabolite is also an oxidant that can cause DNA base damage and induce apoptosis. 2A3B4HP has been shown to have therapeutic potential as a treatment for eosinophilic inflammation by inducing eosinophil peroxidase activity.
