Descripción

Metformin is a pharmaceutical agent that is used to treat type 2 diabetes and metabolic syndrome. Metformin inhibits the enzyme gluconeogenic dehydrogenase, which leads to a decrease in blood glucose levels. It also reduces insulin resistance and dyslipidemia by inhibiting the release of insulin from pancreatic beta cells. Metformin has been shown to be prophylactic for diabetic patients with cardiovascular disease, as it lowers blood pressure and reduces the risk of heart attack or stroke. The solvate form of metformin is more water-soluble than metformin hydrochloride and can be given intravenously.
