This compound is chiral and can exist as two mirror images, which are only slightly different from each other. The active form of this compound can be obtained by reacting with sodium methoxide in methanol. (R)-(1-Phenyl-ethyl)-trimethylsilanylmethyl-amine has also been shown to have a ligand binding affinity for oxadiazole and trisubstituted ligands. X-ray crystallographic studies on this compound have revealed that it forms a complex with an alkali metal ion in the crystal lattice, while performing as a carbanion or ligand.
