ELQ-300 is a novel molecule that has been shown to inhibit mitochondrial function by binding to the cytochrome c oxidase (COX) subunit IV of the electron transport chain. COX is a protein gene that is encoded in the mitochondrial DNA and plays a key role in ATP production. ELQ-300 has been shown to have clinical development potential for the treatment of infectious diseases such as malaria, which are caused by organisms that cause damage to cellular components. It also has potential for use in clinical settings as a transport inhibitor, which would be used to treat hypertension and other cardiovascular disorders.
