(3R,5S)-tert-Butyl 6-chloro-3,5-dihydroxyhexanoate is a secondary metabolite that is used as a lipid-lowering drug. It is synthesized by an asymmetric synthesis of 3,5-dihydroxyhexanoic acid and tertiary butyl alcohol. The synthetic pathway starts with the conversion of diaminopentane phosphate to diaminopentane dihydrogen phosphate in the presence of sodium carbonate. This reaction produces a mixture of (2S,4S)- and (2R,4S) -enantiomers of diaminopentane dihydrogen phosphate. The (2S,4S) -enantiomer is then converted to (2R,4S) -enantiomer by dehydrogenase enzymes. Hydroxylation of the (2R,4S) -enantiomer occurs with the help of a lipase enzyme
