5,5'-Dimethoxylariciresinol 4-o-glucoside is a natural product extracted from the roots of Phellodendron amurense. This compound has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria and fungi, including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). It is also a potent inhibitor of human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) replication in vitro and in vivo. 5,5'-Dimethoxylariciresinol 4-o-glucoside has been shown to inhibit HIV-1 by binding to the viral envelope protein gp120. This binding prevents gp120 from interacting with CD4+ T cells.
