Ethyl 2-amino-3-methoxybenzoate is a cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor that is used in the treatment of cancer. It binds to the ATP binding site of CDKs, preventing the formation of active complexes and inhibiting cell cycle progression. This drug has been shown to have anti-tumor effects with no adverse reactions in mice. The substitutions for this molecule are halides, which are known to be good leaving groups, and nitrogens that are part of indole rings. Although the nitrogen atom has not been shown to be important for this molecule's activity, it may be necessary for the molecule's activity.
