4-Methylumbelliferyl a-L-idopyranoside is a fluorescent substrate that is used in chemiluminescence and bioluminescence reactions. It is also used as a ligand in enzyme assays and as a chromogenic substrate in diagnostic tests. Chemiluminescent substrates are important tools for the measurement of the activity of enzymes, such as horseradish peroxidase, glucose oxidase, alkaline phosphatase, and β-glucuronidase.
