4-Bromo-2,6-dimethylpyrimidine is a reactive chemical with the formula (CH3)3C6H3Br. It is produced by the reaction of 3-chloropropiophenone and bromine. 4-Bromo-2,6-dimethylpyrimidine is used in the synthesis of benzothiazoles, phenylpyridines, and other heterocyclic compounds. The t1/2 values for this chemical are 1.8 and 12 minutes. Solutions of 4-bromo-2,6-dimethylpyrimidine ionize to give a spectrum with maxima at 234 nm and 266 nm.
