Artefenomel is a sesquiterpene lactone that is used to treat malaria and HIV infection. It has been shown to be active against the parasite Plasmodium falciparum, which causes malaria, by inhibiting protein synthesis and DNA synthesis. Artefenomel has also been shown to inhibit the growth of HIV by affecting the viral reverse transcriptase enzyme. In toxicity studies, this drug was not found to be toxic in mice when given at doses up to 10 mg/kg body weight. The dry weight of this drug is about 190 g/mol.
