• Descripción: 2-Amino-5-chlorobenzoic acid is a drug that inhibits the enzyme dopamine beta-hydroxylase. It has been used to treat Parkinson's disease, as well as schizophrenia and depression. This drug binds to the enzyme by forming a coordination complex with the 5th position of the substrate, which prevents it from binding to other substrates. 2-Amino-5-chlorobenzoic acid also inhibits prostaglandin E2 synthesis by inhibiting cyclooxygenase activity in rats. The inhibitory properties of this drug are enhanced when it is dissolved in hydroxide solution or in solutions containing sodium hydroxide. The synthesis of 2-amino-5-chlorobenzoic acid involves reacting 3,4-dihydroxybenzeneacetic acid with hydrochloric acid and sodium hydroxide solution.
