It can be used as a precursor to other compounds or as a reagent in chemical reactions. 3-Amino-2,2,4,4-tetramethylthietane has been shown to form ethers with sulfate ions and chloride ions. It also catalyzes the activation of vinyl ethers by leuckart's catalyst to produce vinyl sulfonates. 3-Amino-2,2,4,4-tetramethylthietane can be synthesized from thiourea and nitric acid.
