(3-Amino-4-fluorophenyl)boronic acid is an organic chemical that belongs to the class of Grignard reagents. It is used to synthesize boranes and as a catalyst for various reactions.
Grignard reagents are prepared by reacting a magnesium metal with an alkyl halide, such as methyl chloride or ethyl chloride, in the presence of an acid such as hydrochloric acid. The reaction proceeds via a nucleophilic attack by the halogen on the magnesium metal, releasing a hydrogen molecule and forming an intermediate organometallic compound. This intermediate compound reacts with another equivalent of the alkyl halide to form the grignard reagent.
The synthesis method can also be performed using trimethyl borate instead of magnesium metal; this method is called a "grignard reaction".
