• Descripción: (3S,4S)-4-Amino-3-hydroxy-6-methylheptanoic acid is an amide that inhibits HIV replication. It binds to the HIV reverse transcriptase and blocks the formation of a hydrogen bond with the enzyme, thereby inhibiting its activity. The compound also inhibits the activity of xanthine oxidase, which is important for cellular respiration. In vitro studies have shown that this drug has inhibitory properties on congestive heart failure, as well as on malonic acid oxidation in rat liver mitochondria. This drug is an analog of L-arginine, which is an amino acid found in proteins and nucleic acids.
