• Descripción: Substance P is a tachykinin that is released from the nerve endings of the parasympathetic nervous system. It binds to receptors in the plasma membrane of cells and causes them to release acetylcholine, which is an inhibitory neurotransmitter. Substance P also has been shown to interact with muscle cells and cause contractions. The incubation of Substance P with muscle cells inhibits the release of calcium ions, which reduces the membrane potential and decreases the contractility of these cells.
