• Descripción: Alprazolam is a benzodiazepine with a triazolam structure. It is used in the treatment of anxiety, panic disorders, and depression. Alprazolam has been shown to have pharmacological effects on brain functions, such as inducing sleep, as well as physiological effects such as reducing heart rate and blood pressure. Alprazolam has been shown to be an effective treatment for generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) and social anxiety disorder (SAD). Alprazolam is metabolized in the liver by cytochrome P450 enzymes into metabolites that are excreted in urine or faeces. The drug may cause withdrawal symptoms when discontinued abruptly after prolonged use. The drug also interacts with other drugs such as antidepressants, antiepileptics, antihistamines, antipsychotics, antifungals, antibiotics, and anaesthetics.
