4-Amino-5-methyl-4H-1,2,4-triazole-3-thiol is an inhibitor of corrosion that can be used in coatings. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria by binding to and inhibiting nitrogenase activity. The inhibition of nitrogenase decreases the availability of ammonia and nitrate in the environment. 4-Amino-5-methyl-4H-1,2,4-triazole-3-thiol is insoluble in water and organic solvents. This compound has been shown to be a potentiodynamic polarization corrosion inhibitor on metal surfaces.
