2-Amino-3-hydroxy-3-phenylpropanoic acid is a naturally occurring amino acid that belongs to the group of hydroxylated amino acids. It is synthesized by the body from ornithine and phenylalanine, and can also be obtained from dietary sources. 2-Amino-3-hydroxy-3-phenylpropanoic acid has been shown to stimulate protein synthesis in tissue culture cells. This effect may be due to its ability to act as an oxygen nucleophile, which facilitates reactions with other molecules such as hydrogen fluoride.
