3-Amino-azabicyclo[3.3.0]octane hydrochloride (AAO) is a metal coordination compound that has been shown to be an antimicrobial agent. It is synthesized by the reaction of salicylaldehyde and copper metal ions in water. AAO has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria, including Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, and Staphylococcus aureus, through coordination with copper ions. AAO also inhibits the oxidation of styrene and cyclohexene. This compound is used as a catalyst for polymerizations and electronic ligands in coordination compounds.
