2-Acetylphenylboronic acid is a covalent boronate ester that is stable in aqueous solutions. It has been shown to be effective for the diagnosis of bacterial strains and can be used for the treatment of cancer. This compound has also been studied for its use as an antimicrobial agent against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), which may lead to new treatments for MRSA infections. The reaction mechanism of 2-acetylphenylboronic acid involves neutral ph, aristolactam, and diazaborine intermediates. 2-Acetylphenylboronic acid is also a reversible covalent with kinetic properties that can be used in chemical biology experiments.
