Afrormosin is a natural product that has been shown to have an anti-tumor response in vitro. It also has a hypoglycemic effect in vivo, which may be due to its ability to inhibit glucose uptake by cells and increase cellular acetate content. Afrormosin can also suppress the proliferation of several human tumor cell lines, including HL-60 cells and K562 cells, by blocking matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) activity. This compound is extracted from the roots of Acacia nilotica and is used as a starting material for the synthesis of biochanin and other compounds. Afrormosin can be purified using preparative high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC).
