(R)-3-Aminobutanoic acid is also an intermediate in the formation of crotonic acid, which is involved in the synthesis of butyric acid. This compound has been shown to have catalytic activity with a variety of organic reactions because it can act as both a base and a nucleophile. The reaction system may be reversed phase high performance liquid chromatography, gas chromatography, or thin layer chromatography.
