6-Amino-2-mercaptopyrimidin-4-ol is a potent inhibitor of cyclin-dependent kinases (CDKs). It binds to the ATP binding site of CDKs and inhibits their phosphorylation activity. 6-Amino-2-mercaptopyrimidin-4-ol has been shown to have an IC50 value of 230 nM against the CDK1 enzyme. This compound has also been shown to be selective for CDK1 and does not inhibit other protein kinases. Through X-ray crystallography, it was found that 6-amino 2 mercaptopyrimidin 4 ol binds to the ATP binding site in a similar manner as benzenesulfonamide, with its sulfonyl group interacting with amino acid residues on the surface of the ATP binding pocket.
