2-Amino-6-bromophenol is a phenolic compound that is found in wheat. It is metabolized to its active form, 2-amino-6-nitrophenol, by cytochrome P450 enzymes in tissues. 2-Amino-6-bromophenol has low activity and is not toxic to mammals. The nitrophenols are metabolized by epinasty, resulting in the formation of an aromatic ring that may undergo hydroxylation or structural changes. 2-Amino-6-bromophenol can be converted into 2,4,5 trichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4,5 T) which inhibits protein synthesis and may induce apoptosis. The detoxification of 2 amino 6 bromophenol involves beta oxidation and sulfate conjugation with glucuronic acid.
