(R)-3-(2-Amino-2-oxoethyl)-5-methylhexanoic acid (cis) is an intermediate in the synthesis of a chiral drug. It is prepared by a ring-opening reaction with an alkyl substituent, followed by asymmetric synthesis to provide optically pure cis stereoisomers. This compound has been shown to be active as a desymmetrizer of esters and as an intermediate in the synthesis of biologically active compounds.
