(3-Aminopropyl)phosphonic acid is an organic compound that is structurally similar to the neurotransmitter gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA). It is a potent uptake inhibitor of GABA and has been shown to inhibit cancer growth in vitro. The mechanism of action for (3-aminopropyl)phosphonic acid is not fully known, but it has been suggested that it inhibits tumor cell proliferation by binding to ganglion cells and inhibiting their growth. This inhibition may be due to its ability to act as a potent antagonist at the GABA receptor site.
