Azetidine-3-carboxylic acid, also known as 3-azetidine carboxylic acid (AZC), is a basic compound that has been shown to inhibit the activity of protein genes. It is a metabolite of histidine and can be used in the treatment of metabolic disorders such as diabetes mellitus. Azetidine-3-carboxylic acid inhibits the activity of enzymes such as chymotrypsin and trypsin, which are involved in protein digestion. It also has anti-inflammatory properties, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the production of inflammatory mediators such as prostaglandins. Azetidine-3-carboxylic acid has been shown to have strong antiarrhythmic effects and can be used for the treatment of congestive heart failure. This drug has been found to have an optimum concentration between 0.5 and 2 mM for receptor activity in humans.
