• Descripción: 1-Amino-2-hydroxyethaniminiumchloride (AHEPC) is an amide of ethaniminium chloride, which is a potent antibacterial agent. AHEPC has been shown to have cytosolic calcium ionophore activity and to inhibit the growth of cancer cells. It also inhibits the production of glutamate, a neurotransmitter in the brain that can lead to seizures and other neurological disorders. The clinical development of AHEPC has shown it to be an effective treatment for hiv infection and cancer. AHEPC's inhibition of glutamate production may also be useful in treating conditions such as depression, schizophrenia, and epilepsy. AHEPC is orally active, not toxic at high doses, and has a low potential for drug interactions with other drugs or foods.
