4-Amino-2-piperidinone is a peptidomimetic that binds to dopamine receptors. It has been shown to bind to dopamine receptors in rat brain tissue, and this binding can lead to the modulation of neurotransmitter release. 4-Amino-2-piperidinone has also been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria by alkylating bacterial DNA and preventing transcription. This drug was synthesized from β-amino acid, which is a building block for proteins. The synthesis of 4-Amino-2-piperidinone involves an intramolecular hydrogen bond, which stabilizes its structure.
