Allylmagnesium chloride is a reactive compound that contains an asymmetric hydroxyl group and a hydrogen atom. It is used in the synthesis of 1,2-diols by reacting with secondary alcohols, yielding the corresponding esters. The compound is also used as a light-emitting material during the synthesis of carbohydrate chemistry. Allylmagnesium chloride reacts with nitrogen atoms to form nitrogen gas and hydrogen chloride gas. It can be used as a solid catalyst for reactions involving magnesium salt or chloride yields.
