• Descripción: 3-Acetoxy-2-methylbenzoic acid is an antibacterial agent that is effective against bacteria such as Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, and Proteus mirabilis. This compound is a potent inhibitor of the enzyme enoyl acyl carrier protein reductase (ENR) in the bacterial cell membrane. 3-Acetoxy-2-methylbenzoic acid binds to metal ions through a chloride ion and forms a metal chelate that prevents the growth of bacteria. It has also been shown to be a competitive inhibitor of human immunodeficiency virus type 1 reverse transcriptase. The molecular modelling study shows that 3-acetoxy-2-methylbenzoic acid is an efficient method for treating HIV infection.
