3-Acetoxymethyl-4-acetoxyacetophenone is a colorless solid that has been used in the manufacture of devices, including computer monitors and televisions. 3-Acetoxymethyl-4-acetoxyacetophenone is also used to produce Chinese hamster cells for the evaluation of anticancer drugs. The drug is detectable with an encodes gene mutation detection system, which uses cells from Chinese hamsters. 3-Acetoxymethyl-4-acetoxyacetophenone has been shown to be mutagenic and can damage DNA in escherichia coli K12 and coli K12 strains.
