It has shown to be an effective dose for inhibiting matrix metalloproteinase, which is an enzyme that breaks down collagen and elastin in the skin. In addition, 2-acetylpyrimidine can be found in wastewater treatment systems where it inhibits bacterial growth by binding to nitrogen atoms. This compound also shows inhibitory effects on herpes simplex virus (HSV) and carbonyl group oxidation.
