2-Amino-2-butenediamide is an organic compound with the formula CH3CONHCH(NH2)CH2CH3. It is a colorless liquid that has been studied as a solvent and as a reagent in organic synthesis. 2-Amino-2-butenediamide is produced by the reaction of ethanol and propylene oxide, followed by hydrolysis of the resulting enamine. The molecule exists as two tautomers, one with an amine group trans to an ester group, and the other with the amine group cis to the ester group. The trans form predominates at higher temperatures, whereas the cis form predominates at lower temperatures. This chemical reacts with lithium aluminum hydride to give dialkyl 2-aminoethyl ethers, which can be converted to enamines via catalytic reduction with hydrogen gas in presence of alkoxide.
