It has been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells in cell culture by cross-coupling with nitrogen atoms in DNA and thereby inhibiting replication. 2-Amino-4,6-dihydroxypyrimidine also reacts with halides to form reaction intermediates that are capable of reacting with hydrogen bonds and other functional groups. This chemical compound has been shown to have radical scavenging activities in acidic environments and vibrational properties.
