3.2-Aminoethyl nitrate (3.2-AEN) is a drug that inhibits the enzyme 3.2-AEN reductase, which is involved in the conversion of 3.2-AEN to its active form, pioglitazone. It has been shown to be an effective antidiabetic agent in animal studies and clinical trials, with a favourable safety profile when used as monotherapy or in combination with other drugs. 3.2-AEN has been shown to improve ventricular function in patients with congestive heart failure and to reduce insulin resistance, although there are no data on long-term efficacy and safety of this drug for these indications.
