(S)-(+)-3-Aminopiperidine dihydrochloride is an organic compound that belongs to the class of pyrrolidines. It is a white crystalline solid at room temperature and pressure, but it is usually sold as a hydrochloride salt. (S)-(+)-3-Aminopiperidine dihydrochloride is used as a catalytic agent in the synthesis of amides from carboxylic acids and ammonia. The reaction is accelerated by the addition of hydrochloric acid. This chemical has also been used in the production of other compounds such as enantiomerically pure 3-amino-1,2,4-triazole and 1-(2-pyridyl)piperazine.
