Acridine hydrochloride is a quinoline derivative that has been used as an enhancer in cell culture. It also has been shown to have antiproliferative effects on various cancer cell lines, including melanoma and thyroid carcinoma cells. Acridine hydrochloride induces necrotic cell death by disrupting the mitochondrial membrane potential and inhibiting protein synthesis. This drug also inhibits human fatty acid synthase, which may be related to its anticancer activity. Acridine hydrochloride has been shown to enhance the growth of Streptococcus faecalis in vitro and in vivo, which may be because it inhibits the synthesis of fatty acids in these bacteria.
