• Descripción: Androst-16-en-3-ol is a pheromone that is produced by male pigs and has been shown to be a potent stimulant of female pigs. It is also an anti-cancer agent that can inhibit the growth of human cancer cells in culture. Androst-16-en-3-ol has been shown to have high cytotoxicity against human testicular, prostate, breast, and colon cancer cells with IC50 values ranging from 0.1 to 2 microM. This chemical was also found to be a potent inhibitor of protein synthesis in all four cell lines tested. Androstenone can act as a chemical conjugate with sulphates or other molecules, which can be detected by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) or liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry (LC/MS).
