• Descripción: (5a)-Androstane-3,11,17-trione is a synthetic, non-steroidal, androgenic steroid. It is a hydrophobic compound that binds to the androgen receptor. (5a)-Androstane-3,11,17-trione has affinity for the carbonyl group of amino acids on the surface of the receptor. This binding causes conformational changes in the ligand that lead to an interaction with the hydrophobic regions of the receptor. The carbonyl group of amino acid residues also influences this interaction by stabilizing it through hydrogen bonding. Optimization of these interactions led to increased affinity for the androgen receptor in comparison to other compounds such as testosterone or methyltestosterone.
