Arecoline hydrobromide is a cholinergic drug that has been widely used for the treatment of hydatid disease. It can be used as an aid in the diagnosis of locomotor activity and p450 activity. Arecoline hydrobromide also has a basic protein, which is low in the low-dose group. The untreated group was found to have higher levels of arecoline, bisbenzylisoquinoline alkaloids, and mitochondrial membrane potential than the low-dose group. The untreated group also had lower levels of cholinergic activity than the high-dose group. This may be due to thermodynamic effects caused by high doses of arecoline hydrobromide, which lowers the solubility of basic proteins and increases cellular membrane permeability.
