D-Azetidine-2-carboxylic acid is a carboxylic acid that is an intermediate in the biosynthesis of proline. It is formed from the metabolism of asparagine and glutamine by plants. D-Azetidine-2-carboxylic acid has been shown to have teratogenic properties, and can be used to produce analogs of other amino acids with similar biological activity.
